Historical Background
to Careys Bay Day
In 1988 a group
of mature gentlemen were having a beer at the Careys Bay Pub, - while gazing
out across the picturesque Otago Harbour at the shell bank, which appears
like a tiny Island at high tide, it came upon them that all it required
was a palm tree to make it appear like a tropical island in the middle
of the Harbour. The Island was therefore proclaimed and was named Isle
de Blagdon after a dynamic member of the group..
The founding fathers
then proclaimed that a dinghy race around the island should be held to
mark the occasion. The race was organised and began at Careys Bay and the
winner was to be the first to circumnavigate the island return to the bay
and down a 12oz beer at the Careys Bay Hotel.
THE BRITISH SEAGULL
Made
in Dorset, England for over 70 years.
So
simple and well built they just keep going. Legends in the boating world.
One
of the few motors that is actually becoming a collectible! Easy to fit
spares with simple tools. A technologically simple motor made in a time
when craftsmanship and quality actually meant something. A true marine
engine and one of the few motors that will last in a saltwater environment.
Simplicity and elegancy of design and engineering. Seagull stopped making
the "classics" in 1978 and made the Q.B. series through to the early
1990's)
The
British Seagull was designed as and always will be a "working motor"
